Why most diets fail?

They are too strict, so people tend to put dieting off, wait for next week or tomorrow to start.
They are based on greatly reducing the calories intake. The result is that their metabolism slow down and the body burn less fat. It is a defensive mechanism, the body thinks you are starving it. When you restart eating normally, your metabolism is still slow and you gain more fat.
Any diet which leads you to not eating a certain food group will not resolve the problem in a long term. You should choose a diet that lets you eat reasonable portions of food and just changes your habits of when and what you should eat.
